Happy Thanksgiving!
This is the first time in five years that I’ll be home with my family for Thanksgiving. It’s quite possibly my favourite holiday. The craziness of Christmas hasn’t settled in yet, and yet the crispness of fall is all around. Where I’m from, and where I currently live, the leaves finish falling, the ground is littered with gold, and the rolling hills are warm with the late afternoon sun.
Last year, I spent Thanksgiving at a wedding in New Zealand with my brother and his friends. In the days leading up to the holiday, I got to share my New Zealand with my brother, who hadn’t been there since he was seven. He got to see his friends that he hadn’t seen in years. And we somehow survived five days in a car together! The year before, I was alone in Wellington. For the two years before that, I was either on the expedition ship I worked on or in shipyard with the ship!
If you’re travelling this week, please send good vibes to those that have to work on the holiday. Remember that travel this weekend can be crazy hectic. Be sure to plan for a little extra time in security and boarding the plane. Safe travels!
