The Royal Wedding was Saturday – and it got me thinking. Where would I send Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their honeymoon? Heck, where would I send them if I was their travel advisor, period? There are so many amazing honeymoon destinations out there. Honeymoons depend a lot on what the couple is interested in. For Harry and Meghan, I figured they’re both pretty active people who also want to spend time relaxing in seclusion. After all, they live a pretty public life. I rounded up just three destinations they might consider (maybe for their first anniversary? Hint hint, Kensington Palace!) and let me tell you, all these places are fit for a royal.
Harry and Meghan, the honeymoon
I’m not a big Royal Watcher, but I do love Prince Harry. I remember Diana, and both Harry and William are near my age. For my generation, this is a big deal. So many girls dream of their fairy tale wedding, which we can all agree that Meghan really did get. But since I don’t read everything about them, most of what I assume is based on news or pictures I see in the media. I assume they are active people, very sustainability-friendly, and also curious. Harry spends a lot of time in Africa, so it stands to reason they’ll honeymoon there. However, there’s a lot more out there (they are rumoured to be going to Namibia), and here are some alternatives for Harry and Meghan’s honeymoon!
New Zealand
Who wouldn’t want to go to New Zealand? It’s the perfect mix of exotic and familiar, and there are so many incredible things to do. Furthermore, there are some seriously secluded luxury lodges where Harry and Megan could hide out – and no one would know they were there. I’d begin their itinerary with a stay up in the Bay of Islands at Eagles Nest. Here they would enjoy the privacy of their own private villa high above the Bay with epic views out over the islands. With a private pool, personal chef, massage therapists, and even private yachts at their service, they would want for nothing.

From the Bay of Islands, they could fly to Queenstown, where they would be whisked by helicopter to Minaret Station, hidden from the world in the Southern Alps. Here, on the 23,000 acre deer and sheep station, they could relax or use the helicopters to explore the glaciers, mountains, and fjords of the South Island.
After indulging in the exceptional food and wine of the Central Otago region, I’d send them north to the southern tip of the North Island, to Wharekauhau Country Estate. Here, they could heli into Wellington for a luxurious dinner, watch the sunset over the Cook Strait with a bottle of local wine, or play on the 5,000+ acre estate.
As Virtuoso clients, they’d receive upgrades, complimentary breakfasts, guided walks, dinners, alpine landings in the helicopters, and more at the Luxury Lodges of NZ properties. While each property is different, they’re all spectacular and exceptionally luxurious. I truly believe you can’t go wrong with a honeymoon in New Zealand!
Mozambique and South Africa
Imagine unspoilt white sand beaches, beautiful hand-built villas with private infinity pools, and lush gardens with indigenous flora. I’d send Harry and Meghan to the Azura Benguerra Island, a 17-villa eco-friendly retreat in the heart of the Bazaruto Marine National Park. They could spend their days exploring the nearby reefs, dolphin watching, or simply relaxing. Steps from the beach yet hidden from all, no one would know they were there.
Since they’d arrive by private plane, they could even begin their honeymoon at Ulusaba, Sir Richard Branson’s property on the eastern coast of Africa, in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, or at Mont Rochelle, his property in the South African wine country.
These are all Virtuoso properties. Virtuoso perks at these include upgrades, spa credits, complimentary meals, and more.
Morocco
There’s plenty to do in this gorgeous country, but I’d send Harry and Meghan to Kasbah Tamadot, Sir Richard Branson’s property in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Here, at this 28-room Virtuoso luxury resort, they can settle in for some casual touring, outdoor adventures, or food and wine tasting. There are some spectacular UNESCO sites in Morocco, all worth visiting. Virtuoso amenities here are upgrades, 100 MAD credits for the spa or food and beverage services, and complimentary breakfast, as well as early check in or late check out.
With a private driver and guide from Heritage Tours, another Virtuoso provider, they can easily get around Morocco. Virtuoso has partner hotels in Marrakech and Casablanca too, and there’s a phenomenal Banyan Tree property in Tamouda Bay, in the north. Best part of all? It’s not a long travel day!
So, that’s where I would send Harry and Meghan on their honeymoon. Thoughts? Pin this >>> to your #royalwedding Pinterest board!
